Hansjörg Küster "history of the forest. From prehistory to the present."
It's amazing what one at some point all interested. And although history has always been mine and I have a university trip to the social and economic history, aspects beyond met the "normal" approach, I had the Natural history never to the note.
That has changed with the book "The Conquest of Nature: A History of the German landscape" by David Blackbourn.
It deals are not "the" conquest, but for selected periods, which were significantly each other both in German history and for the area - with Focus on the landscape and makes the book so special. Drainage of the Oderbruch, land reclamation from the sea, the Rhine straightening etc. are examined and with them the consequences for the country and its people - for better or for worse, but without make any judgments.
The Waldenbuch I not appointed, as I with the first semi and was just really wanted to read the same afterwards. That did not work. For books about the nature or those in which nature has a high proportion, one must (as in: I) read just the nature (or at least out in the sun), so that they can achieve their full effect - read on eg "New York - Island in the middle of the World" by Russell Shorto once somewhere on the river and then home. In between are worlds apart.
And suddenly there was winter, the forest had an wait. Until now. (Perhaps this is just another white-Klotz-Prokrastinationsmaßnahme. In this psychological thing you put not so always there)
